New Season

by Unknown - 10:03 on 02 February 2009

Here comes the sun!

The nights are getting brighter, the frost is lifting, Burns night is past, and Valentines day is nearly upon us, which for all the non Winter golfers among us means it is time to dig the clubs out of the garage and start telling yourself that this really is going to be the year when your handicap comes tumbling down and that a clean sweep of trophies is in the bag – I realise that this illusion will be shattered by the time I have hooked a ball in to the canal on the second hole during the first competition of the season, but it is that illusion, or could it be delusion, that keeps me coming back every year.

The first competition of the new season is “The Three Club” on Saturday 28th March. This is a fun way of easing you back in to strokeplay competitions and gives Men, Ladies and Juniors an opportunity to compete and get to know each other better. The following Saturday the serious stuff starts with the April medal, here’s hoping I can get past the fourth hole without three putting.

For the Winter golfers amongst you a big thank you to the Winter League team, Eric, Mike, Dave and George for once again setting up and running what must be the most successful Winter League in the North of Scotland.

Some new things to look out for this year are The Moray Firth League, which will be a men’s team event played once a month against surrounding clubs and the Shotgun texas scramble in July which will be a great social event – feel free to suggest ideas about what we could do after the golf, bbq? Quiz? Entertainment?

For those of you who haven’t been in the Clubhouse in the last few weeks we now have a new catering franchise in place. John and his team have done a fantastic job so far and I would encourage everyone to sample his menu at the earliest opportunity. This is a big step forward for the club and will hopefully raise some extra revenue through attracting outings and encouraging more members to use the clubhouse after they have played. Menus and opening hours will be posted on the website in the next few days.

Last year was a tough year for Torvean, but when it came to the crunch the membership pulled together to ensure we could all continue to enjoy the fantastic course we have. Let’s hope this year continues to see that camaraderie amongst all sections of the membership.

Here’s to a great year for TGC

It is good to hear that the clubhouse menu is up and running . There was a a very sombre , deppressing feel about the clubhouse towards the end of last year .

I have just been reading the comments page and there seems to be a lot of moaning about the fees increase .

I love being able to play at Torvean as it is just on my doorstep and I am quite willing to pay £100 pounds extra fees this year if it means we can keep the club going .

I started playing golf in the 07/08 season and Torvean holds a special place in my heart . I was warmly welcomed into the fold .

I think if people are that bothered about the increase they should quite frankly just "bu**er off" somewhere else . Instead of hanging about and endlessley moaning and groaning about it on the practice putting green before tee time . Like Steve said it should be about us all pulling together .

Sampled a few items off the menu already, certainly worth a visit to the clubhouse after a round folks. Like Norman, Torvean holds a place in my heart, it's where I have learned to play golf, it is ideal for me, right on my doorstep and I would be very sad to see the place die because of the financial strain. A few encouraging signs around the place so far early on this year and now all that's left to do is to look forward to topping the first shot of the competitive season off that first tee box. Good luck to all.

Theres a new kid on the block Gents!!!

why when booking an outing the food has to be arranged seperately.surely a basic menu can be agreed with the caterer
